Many millions of children are abused and neglected each year. Not enough attention and resources are devoted to the often troubled adults they become. ACAN (Adult Children of Abuse and Neglect) is dedicated to speaking out about the secrets and learning to embrace life fully.

Child abuse and neglect occurs at all levels of society. It is vitally important that we pull back the curtains of secrecy and report these traumas against children whether they occurred today or seventy years ago. Often these secrets are kept hidden behind a mask of respectability.

An example can be seen in the life of Colette Inez (of poetry fame). Her father, a Monsignor in the Roman Catholic church, would have nothing to do with her despite his vows to care for the troubled of the world.

"Dr. Don" Etkes' (the founder of ACAN) own father, Hugh O'Brian (of Wyatt Earp TV fame) neglected his son despite his claims to caring about kids through his Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership foundation.

Despite these betrayers and heartbreakers of children, survivors can still find ways to lead happy and successful lives.
